Wanderlust: n. a strong desire for or impulse to wander or travel and explore the world

If you’ve read my other blog posts, or perhaps my ‘about me’ page, then you know I’m currently living in Europe. One of the amazing aspects of living here, is that several wonderful countries are just a train or bus ride away. Some places in the list below are fairly close, and some might require a plane ride. Either way, I’m SO ready to discover what’s out there!

I put together a wanderlust list, to share with you. It’s a list of places I would LOVE to go to, and why I want to go there. I’m feeling pretty optimistic and believe I can hit them all within the next 5 years.

Dream, plan, action! Right?!

Have you ever written a bucket list in your journal about beautiful places you’d love to travel to? My list consists mainly of destinations in Europe, because it’s close to me. Do you want some ideas or inspiration? Well, whip out your map because I’m going to share my top 10! #traveltips #travelersnotebook #traveldestinations #wanderlusttravel

I’m sure you’ve heard/read this quote a million times, but it’s still my favourite:

“Once a year, go someplace you’ve never been before.”
– Dalai Lama

Okay here’s my list:

1. Copenhagen, Denmark

Everyone rides bikes around Copenhagen! I want to rent a bike and go explore. There are even guided bike tours you can book. I also want to see the Kronborg Castle. A castle full of history and culture which is next to a big body of water, doesn’t that sound amazing?

2. Tallinn, Estonia

It’s the capital of Estonia, and it has old and new vibes to it. It’s a small-ish city and has a medieval feel to it! They have sandy beaches (clearly I’m a sucker for bodies of water) that I would definitely love to check out. The Dominican Monastery Claustrum also seems like an incredible place to visit.

3. Helsinki, Finland

This place looks like a dream come true. I mean come on, it’s made up of over 300 islands. I want to see Suomenlinna which is an 18th-century sea fortress and nature area. That is more than enough to pull me in.

4. Lopud, Croatia

It’s a small (we’re talking very small, population 220!!) island, 4.63 square kilometres off the coast of Dalmatia, southern Croatia. It’s truly a paradise. An escape. No cars allowed. It has a certain aura that you don’t want to miss out on, and I certainly want to experience it all for myself.

5. Salzburg, Austria

Ever heard of Mozart? Well, he was born In Salzburg! There’s lots to do and see in this small city, and it has views of the Eastern Alps. You could even check out the Northern Lights. One of the many awesome things about this place, is that it’s great to visit during any season. This would be perfect for me in those gloomy winter months.

6. Sintra, Portugal

Not too far from the capital, Lisbon, this city is so incredibly picturesque! I want to check out the Moorish Castle because it offers the best view of the city. One look at the pastel-colored villas and palaces, and I’m hooked!

7. Morschach, Switzerland

To the mountains I go! Who’s coming with me? I really want to explore Fronalpstock – it’s a summit with views of over 10 Swiss lakes. At 1922 m above sea level, there’s a neat restaurant on the mountain. Food, insane views and mountains, yes please.

8. Ljubljana, Slovenia

Have you ever seen pictures of Lake Bled? I want to see it in real life. It would be kick-ass to also check out the Postojna cave, and stuff my face with traditional dishes of Ljubljana.

9. Amsterdam, Netherlands

This place looks like a true masterpiece, waiting to be explored. Bike rides and walks next to the canal, or maybe relax at the Vondelpark. The Anne Frank house is also there – I don’t think I’d miss that.

10. Reykjavik, Iceland

Best for last, in my opinion. I want to see All. Of. It. Northern Lights, ATV tours, whale watching, hot springs!

Writing this post was so motivating, I’m going to plan a trip to one of these places RIGHT NOW. Want to find out where I’m going? I’ll keep you posted on Instagram – head over to my profile to follow me :).
